Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) has decided to re-examine the qualifications of its employees before granting official appointments and promotions.
Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways Prasanna Gunasena said the verification process is scheduled to begin tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister highlighted a severe shortage of drivers and conductors within the SLTB, noting that the labour deficit has significantly affected public transport operations. As a result, more than 350 buses are reportedly unable to operate each day.
He said steps are being taken to address staffing shortages while ensuring that appointments and promotions are carried out transparently and based on verified qualifications.
