Cyclone Ditwah: Does the Government Have a Consolidated Damage Estimate to Support Victims? Ravi Questions

February 4, 2026

Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party and MP Ravi Karunanayake has raised a query under Standing Order 27(2), asking whether the Disaster Management Center has officially approved a national-level consolidated damage and loss estimate to guide relief efforts for people affected by Cyclone Ditva.

If such approval has been granted, the MP also sought clarification on the total estimated losses and the date on which the approval was obtained.

Speaking in Parliament, he stressed that the government must also disclose the total replacement costs allocated for housing, infrastructure, agriculture, fisheries, and small and medium enterprises.

The MP raised these concerns while requesting an urgent government statement on compensation and rehabilitation measures for families who suffered deaths, loss of homes, and property damage due to the cyclone.
