Central Bank’s Reserve Management Raises Serious Concerns, Says Ravi

February 17, 2026

Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party and MP Ravi Karunanayake has said that the way the Central Bank of Sri Lanka manages the country’s foreign reserves is problematic.

Speaking at a media briefing, the MP stressed that the Central Bank must clearly explain the true status of Sri Lanka’s foreign reserves.

He also said it remains unclear whether reserve management is being carried out in line with the recommendations of the International Monetary Fund loan programme.

The MP warned that this issue is critically important for Sri Lanka’s future foreign debt repayment process and called for greater transparency and accountability from the authorities.
