The National Council for Road Safety Sri Lanka says the necessary regulations have been drafted to establish a formal regulatory framework for taxi services across the country.
Chairman Manjula Kularatne said district-level discussions have already commenced with relevant stakeholders to further refine the proposals.
He explained that the main objectives of the new regulations are to ensure job stability for taxi drivers, introduce structured welfare measures for those employed in the sector, and bring both app-based and traditional taxi services under a single regulatory framework.
Kularatne added that the government expects to issue a gazette notification on the proposed regulations in due course.
