Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party and MP Ravi Karunanayake has questioned the government in Parliament over the impact of Cyclone Ditva and the lack of clarity surrounding compensation payments to affected communities.
The MP raised the matter by requesting an emergency statement from the government under Standing Order 26(2).
He sought details on eligibility criteria and compensation rates for housing damage, deaths, farmers, and other affected groups.
The MP also asked what legal, Cabinet, or budgetary authority governs the compensation process, stressing the need for transparency and accountability in providing relief to disaster victims.
