Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party and MP Ravi Karunanayake told Parliament that serious issues remain in the compensation process for people affected by Cyclone Ditwah.
Accordingly, the MP requested an emergency government statement under Standing Order 26(2) and called for detailed information on compensation payments across different categories.
He also sought clarification on payments made to farmers and small and medium-scale entrepreneurs, stressing the need for transparency.
The MP said compensation should be released based on district-wise figures, reflecting both the number of beneficiaries and the total value of payments, to ensure fairness and accountability.
