Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party and MP Ravi Karunanayake has called on the government to explain reports that compensation cheques issued to victims of Cyclone Ditva have been returned.
Speaking in Parliament, the MP said there have been complaints about various difficulties faced by individuals who were eligible to receive compensation following the disaster.
He stated that he has raised several questions under Standing Order 27(2), seeking clarification from the government on the reasons behind such incidents.
The MP also requested details on the number of reported cases involving returned cheques and asked what corrective measures have been taken to address these issues and prevent similar occurrences in the future.
