The media spokesperson for former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Attorney-at-Law Manoj Gamage, has stated that no official notice or summons has been received from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption regarding the Airbus deal investigation.
Speaking to the Dinamina newspaper, Gamage said neither Rajapaksa nor former Minister Piyankara Jayaratne had been formally informed to appear and provide statements in relation to the matter.
Gamage alleged that instead of directly notifying the individuals concerned, information about such investigations was being circulated through media channels, which he claimed indicated a political motive.
He further stated that the Rajapaksa faction was not intimidated by such actions and would respond through legal channels if required.
The lawyer also argued that while the Bribery Commission had shown significant interest in matters connected to the Rajapaksa family, investigations into other major allegations—including coal-related issues, container transactions, and alleged financial irregularities—had not progressed with the same urgency.
Gamage called for independent investigations into all major allegations of corruption, stressing that the commission operates using public funds and should function impartially rather than engage in what he described as political targeting.
