The Vietnamese President arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport accompanied by a delegation of 209 members after concluding a visit to India.
The visit is being undertaken at the invitation of Anura Kumara Dissanayake and coincides with the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
According to the Presidential Media Division Sri Lanka, the visit is expected to strengthen bilateral cooperation and support Sri Lanka’s industrialisation and trade expansion efforts.
This also marks the first visit by a Vietnamese President to Sri Lanka in 15 years.
Key Engagements Scheduled
An official welcome ceremony will be held tomorrow (08) at the Presidential Secretariat Sri Lanka under the patronage of President Dissanayake.
The two leaders are expected to hold bilateral discussions covering economic cooperation, trade, investment, and other areas of mutual interest. Several Memoranda of Understanding are also expected to be signed.
President Tô Lâm is additionally scheduled to:
- Pay floral tribute at the statue of Ho Chi Minh at the Colombo Public Library
- Visit the Vietnam–Ho Chi Minh Space at the library
- Deliver a special address to Parliament of Sri Lanka
- Attend exhibitions highlighting Sri Lanka–Vietnam relations and Vietnamese industrial development
- Deliver the keynote address at the Sri Lanka–Vietnam Trade, Investment and Tourism Forum
Harini Amarasuriya and Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne are also expected to meet the Vietnamese President during the visit.
Direct Flights to Be Announced
During the business forum, authorities are expected to officially announce direct flight services between Colombo and Ho Chi Minh City / Hanoi, operated by Vietnam Airlines and VietJet Air.
President Tô Lâm and his delegation are scheduled to conclude the state visit and depart Sri Lanka tomorrow night (08).
