Donald Trump and Xi Jinping met in Beijing on Thursday for a major summit expected to focus on trade relations, the Iran conflict, and regional security issues.
Xi hosted an official welcoming ceremony for Trump at the Great Hall of the People after the U.S. President arrived in China on Wednesday evening.
Trump was welcomed at Beijing Capital International Airport by Chinese Vice President Han Zheng.
The visit marks the first official trip to China by a sitting U.S. president since Trump’s previous visit in 2017.
Key issues on the summit agenda reportedly include:
- Trade and tariffs between the United States and China
- The ongoing Middle East conflict involving Iran
- Tensions surrounding Taiwan
- Global energy security and the Strait of Hormuz
Trump is accompanied by senior officials including Marco Rubio and Pete Hegseth, along with a large delegation of American business leaders.
The business delegation includes:
- Jensen Huang of NVIDIA
- Elon Musk of Tesla
- Tim Cook of Apple Inc.
- Larry Fink of BlackRock
- Stephen Schwarzman of Blackstone
Trump’s son Eric Trump and Lara Trump are also part of the delegation, while First Lady Melania Trump is not accompanying the President on this visit.
The summit takes place amid continued tensions in the Middle East following the Iran conflict and ongoing global concerns over oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, despite a temporary ceasefire currently being in place.
