Jaffna Kings has announced a change in ownership ahead of the sixth season of the Lanka Premier League.
The franchise is now owned by Sports Commune, led by Indian sports entrepreneurs Manjot Kalra and Mayank Goel.
According to the new ownership group, the aim is to develop Jaffna Kings not only as a successful cricket franchise but also as a broader sports platform connecting players, fans, young athletes, and business partners across South Asia.
The owners stated that they intend to modernize the franchise through a combination of:
- Cricketing expertise
- Business development
- Youth talent development
- Digital media engagement
Manjot Kalra, a former professional cricketer, currently works as a sports entrepreneur and digital content creator. He also hosts the sports podcast Second Innings with Manjot Kalra, featuring interviews and stories involving athletes.
Meanwhile, Mayank Goel is involved in the cybersecurity, insurance, and sports development sectors and has supported youth cricket tournaments and corporate leagues.
LPL management has officially approved the ownership transition and stated that the move is expected to strengthen the tournament both competitively and commercially.
Officials believe Sports Commune’s experience in sports and digital engagement will help expand the Jaffna Kings brand and improve fan interaction.
The franchise will continue operating within the official LPL structure, while further announcements regarding team leadership, player selections, and fan engagement initiatives are expected before the new season begins.
The new owners also emphasized their long-term commitment to developing franchise cricket in the region and creating opportunities for emerging young talent.
