The Kremlin has congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he became the longest-serving elected prime minister in India’s history, highlighting his leadership and India’s economic progress during his tenure.
According to reports, Modi surpassed the record previously held by India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, on Wednesday. Nehru served as prime minister for 4,398 days, while Modi has now exceeded that tenure, becoming the longest-serving elected prime minister in modern Indian history.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov praised Modi’s achievements, noting that India had made significant economic and social progress during his years in office.
Peskov pointed out that more than 250 million people had been lifted out of poverty during Modi’s tenure, describing it as a major achievement for the country.
“Today, India has become a leading global economic power with one of the fastest-growing economies in the world. Most importantly for us, India remains one of our closest partners,” Peskov told reporters.
He further emphasized that relations between Russia and India continue to strengthen across a wide range of sectors, including trade, investment, energy, defence, and strategic cooperation.
The Kremlin spokesperson also expressed confidence that Prime Minister Modi would continue to play a key role in further enhancing bilateral ties between the two countries.
India and Russia maintain longstanding diplomatic and strategic relations, with both nations continuing to cooperate closely on regional and global issues.
