The number of dengue-related deaths reported in Sri Lanka so far this year has increased to 69, while the total number of dengue cases has reached 92,854, according to the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU).
The latest figures put the dengue case fatality rate at 0.07%, highlighting the continued health burden caused by the mosquito-borne disease.
Dengue cases have fluctuated throughout the year, with July recording the highest monthly total of 29,964 cases, followed by June with 21,533 cases. A further 7,516 cases were reported during August.
Monthly case numbers were recorded at 7,866 in January, 5,721 in February, 6,013 in March, 5,651 in April and 8,590 in May.
Gampaha remains the worst-affected district, with 19,778 cases, accounting for 21.30% of the total. Colombo has recorded 18,433 cases (19.85%), while Kandy has reported 6,695 cases (7.21%).
The NDCU has identified 96 high-risk Medical Officer of Health (MOH) areas across the country as authorities continue efforts to control the spread of dengue.
