The Government has declared August 21, 22 and 23 as days of national mourning following the death of legendary Sri Lankan singer Visharad Dr. Nanda Malini, according to the Government Information Department.
The remains of the veteran singer will lie in state at the Nanda Malini Sangeetha Ashramaya at No. 30, Vijayaba Mawatha, Nawala Road, Nugegoda, from 10.00 a.m. tomorrow (21) until 3.30 p.m. on Saturday (22) for the public to pay their last respects.
Her final rites will be held on Saturday (22) at 5.00 p.m. at the General Cemetery in Borella.
Nanda Malini passed away today (20) at the age of 82 at her residence in Nawala.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake expressed his condolences over her death in a post on X, describing her as “a true musical legend of our time”.
The President said her timeless music had inspired generations of Sri Lankans and that her remarkable musical legacy would continue to live on in the hearts of millions.
