The latest meeting of the Sri Lanka–Qatar Joint Labour Committee in Doha focused on strengthening cooperation in the labour sector, including ethical recruitment, worker protection and welfare.
The two sides discussed creating more employment opportunities in Qatar for skilled Sri Lankan workers, mutual recognition of professional qualifications and improved coordination between relevant institutions.
Practical issues faced by Sri Lankan workers in Qatar were also reviewed, with both sides agreeing on the need for continued cooperation through the Joint Labour Committee.
The meeting comes as Sri Lanka and Qatar mark 50 years of diplomatic relations, with discussions aimed at expanding job opportunities, improving skills and strengthening workers’ rights.
