Parents Urged to Protect Children’s Privacy Amid Growing Social Media Monetization and AI Risks
The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs has warned of a growing trend involving the use of children’s photographs and videos for commercial purposes, driven by the expansion of monetization features on social media platforms.
In a special announcement to parents, guardians and caregivers, the Ministry highlighted instances where individuals and organizations create content featuring children, often showcasing their talents or daily activities, without parental knowledge or consent.
The Ministry emphasized that frequently sharing videos revealing children’s daily routines, homes, schools and other personal information could pose serious threats to their privacy and safety.
It also warned that photographs and videos of children shared online could be manipulated using artificial intelligence (AI) to create obscene or harmful content.
The Ministry urged parents, guardians and all responsible parties to exercise extreme caution when sharing content involving minors on social media and to prioritize children’s online safety and privacy.
