Government Moves to Strengthen Laws Against Toxic Chemicals in Fruits
Trade Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe stated that strict legal action will be taken against vendors who sell fruits treated with toxic chemicals from April 2026.
The Minister made these remarks while launching the “Toxin-Free Fruit for Children” programme, held to mark World Children’s Day.
He added that steps are currently being taken to amend existing laws to enable stronger legal action against the sale of chemically treated fruits.
