Foreign Minister Calls for Time-Bound Action to Eliminate Nuclear Weapons
Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath represented Sri Lanka at a High-Level Plenary Meeting held to commemorate and promote the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons, convened alongside the diplomatic proceedings of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
During the meeting, Minister Herath reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to the global nuclear disarmament process.
He also stressed the need for practical and time-bound measures to achieve the global elimination of nuclear weapons. The Minister further emphasized that resources currently spent on nuclear weapons should instead be directed towards health, education, development and climate action.
