Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with a Sri Lankan delegation, including Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) General Secretary Tilvin Silva, in India this morning.
The five-member JVP delegation is currently in India for a five-day visit from September 27 to October 1 as part of ongoing engagements between the JVP and India’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Following the meeting, Jaishankar said on X that he was pleased to meet the Sri Lankan delegation.
“Had a good discussion on further strengthening our deep ties of friendship,” he said, adding that “as a trusted partner, India always supports Sri Lanka’s progress and prosperity.”
This is Tilvin Silva’s second visit to India.
The delegation also includes JVP Central Committee member Chandrika Adhikari, MP Abubakkar Athambawa, District Committee member Kabilan Sundaramurthy, and International Affairs Department member Kalpana Madhubhashini.
According to Vijay Chauthaiwale, head of the BJP’s Foreign Affairs Department, the visit aims to strengthen ties between the BJP and JVP, exchange organisational experiences, and further deepen relations between the two political parties.
