The Sri Lanka Police and the Urban Development Authority (UDA) have launched a joint programme to strengthen security and maintain law and order in 24 UDA-managed housing complexes in Colombo and its suburbs.
A special discussion on the initiative was held at the Colombo Deputy Inspector General of Police’s office under the leadership of Colombo Division DIG Nishantha de Soysa, following instructions from Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya.
The programme aims to protect the lives and property of residents living in housing complexes developed under the urban regeneration programme through a comprehensive police security plan.
Based on proposals submitted by UDA Director General Engineer Damith Dissanayake, instructions have been issued to police stations in the relevant areas to implement the necessary security measures.
The authorities also discussed concerns over drug trafficking in certain housing complexes and damage to public property.
As part of the programme, decisions have been taken to establish new police checkpoints, renovate and upgrade existing police facilities, increase regular police patrols and strictly enforce the law against individuals responsible for damaging public property.
Both the Police and the UDA stressed the importance of continued cooperation between the two institutions to ensure the long-term safety and well-being of residents in Colombo’s urban communities.
