The Election Commission has announced that using digital screens for election campaigning in any district or city is strictly prohibited.
Commissioner General of Elections Saman Sri Rathnayake emphasized that any instance of such activity should be reported to the nearest police station, which will then take appropriate action. “If a digital screen is being used for election campaigns in your area, notify the local police station. Paying for or displaying advertisements on these screens is as unlawful as posting posters in public spaces, making it entirely forbidden,” he stated.
Rathnayake added that past court rulings have upheld this policy, and authorities are prepared to seek legal recourse as needed to enforce it.
