A U.S. delegation, led by Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu, met with Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath today (December 6) to discuss collaborative efforts in economic recovery and governance reforms.
The delegation included key representatives from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the U.S. Department of Treasury, both instrumental in supporting Sri Lanka’s economic recovery initiatives.
U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Julie Chung, shared the delegation’s objectives on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), stating:
“We congratulated Sri Lanka’s new administration, discussed shared priorities, and explored ways to collaborate through tailored programs, capacity-building, and technical assistance to support Sri Lanka’s economic and governance reforms for the benefit of the Sri Lankan people.”
Other notable delegates included USAID Deputy Assistant Administrator Anjali Kaur and Deputy Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Treasury Robert Kaproth.
Assistant Secretary Donald Lu’s visit, which began on December 6, aims to advance U.S.-Sri Lankan efforts to foster sustainable economic growth, combat corruption, and strengthen bilateral ties. The visit underscores the continued commitment of the United States to Sri Lanka’s development and reform agenda.
