CEB Requests Rooftop Solar Users to Disconnect Systems Only Upon Notification

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has requested rooftop solar system owners to temporarily disconnect their units only if they receive an official SMS notification from the board, and only until 3:00 p.m., as part of efforts to maintain grid stability during the ongoing New Year holiday period.

The CEB explained that these precautionary measures are implemented when there is a risk of instability in the national power grid, primarily due to a sharp decline in electricity demand during the festive season.

In a statement, the board said it had conducted a comprehensive analysis of projected electricity demand and available renewable energy output for the April holidays. Based on these findings, the CEB determined that electricity supply would need to be carefully managed during this period to avoid overloading the grid.

The CEB also expressed its appreciation to rooftop solar users for their continued cooperation in maintaining grid stability over the past few days.
