China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) has decided to recruit around 2,000 Sri Lankan workers for the large-scale expansion project of Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai.
The decision was reached following discussions between company representatives and officials from the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
According to the Consulate General, discussions were held between CHEC Human Resources representatives and Sri Lankan Consul General Alexi Gunasekara, Head of Chancery Subhashini Silva, and Advisor (Employment and Welfare) Manori Withanapathirana.
The discussions focused primarily on creating employment opportunities for Sri Lankan skilled and semi-skilled workers in connection with the expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport, one of the largest infrastructure projects currently underway in Dubai.
Under the proposed recruitment plan, the company is expected to hire approximately 2,000 Sri Lankan workers in the coming period.
Al Maktoum International Airport is expected to become one of the world’s largest aviation hubs following the completion of the multi-year expansion project.
The Consulate General stated that the initiative is expected to generate significant foreign employment opportunities for Sri Lankans while further strengthening labor migration ties between Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates.
Officials also expressed confidence that increased overseas employment opportunities would contribute positively to foreign remittance inflows and economic cooperation between the two countries.
