A sharp rise in dengue cases has been reported across Sri Lanka, with intermittent rainfall creating ideal conditions for mosquito breeding.
According to the National Dengue Control Unit Sri Lanka, a total of 25,846 dengue cases have been recorded so far this year, with 12 deaths reported, including two children under the age of 12.
In response, the NDCU announced that special dengue eradication programmes will begin tomorrow in high-risk areas.
Consultant Specialist Prashila Samaraweera said the initiatives will focus on the Colombo, Gampaha, and Galle districts, where the risk is currently highest.
Health authorities urge the public to eliminate stagnant water sources, maintain clean surroundings, and seek medical attention promptly if symptoms such as fever, headache, or body aches develop.
