The Ministry of Education has instructed all government schools to refrain from organizing programmes on Sundays to ensure students can participate in Sunday school activities without disruption.
In a letter issued by Additional Secretary (School Activities), P.R. Kariyawasam, the Ministry highlighted a request from the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious, and Cultural Affairs to prioritize Sunday school participation for students.
The directive also acknowledged multiple appeals from stakeholders emphasizing the need to respect the scheduling of Sunday school sessions.
If schools must hold programmes on Sundays, the Ministry has urged that these activities should not coincide with Sunday school timings. Schools are advised to take all necessary measures to comply with this guidance.
