Former Minister Vijith Wijayamuni Soysa was arrested today (January 19) by the Walana Anti-Vice Unit, police reported.
The arrest occurred after the former parliamentarian arrived at the unit to provide a statement regarding an illegally assembled lorry. Following over five hours of questioning, he was taken into custody.
According to the police, the charges involve assembling a lorry using illegally imported vehicle spare parts and creating fraudulent documents for the vehicle.
Vijith Wijayamuni Soysa is expected to be produced before the Bandarawela Court tomorrow (January 20).
Meanwhile, the Walana Anti-Vice Unit is continuing investigations to determine whether the former minister was involved in the illegal assembly of other vehicles.
