Early this morning, four flights scheduled to land at Katunayake Airport were diverted to other airports due to heavy fog that significantly impaired pilots’ visibility of the runway.
- A SriLankan Airlines flight from Dubai was redirected to Mattala Airport.
- Another SriLankan Airlines flight from Guangzhou, China, was also diverted to Mattala Airport.
- A third SriLankan Airlines flight from Bangalore, India, was sent to Mattala Airport as well.
In addition, a Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul, Turkey, originally bound for Katunayake Airport, was redirected to Trivandrum Airport in India, as confirmed by our correspondent.
These diversions were prompted by poor visibility due to the thick fog, which disrupted regular air traffic operations at the airport. Further updates are expected as the situation evolves.
