Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni says that updated guidelines on the management of dengue patients have been issued to medical institutions across the country in response to the rapid increase in dengue infections.
Speaking on the current situation, the Deputy Minister stated that the Ministry of Health has also taken steps to ensure the prompt collection and testing of blood samples from suspected dengue patients, enabling faster diagnosis and treatment.
Dr. Wijemuni emphasized that every patient suspected of having dengue fever should remain under the supervision of a qualified medical practitioner to ensure proper monitoring and timely medical intervention.
He further urged patients to provide blood samples whenever requested by healthcare professionals, noting that laboratory tests play a crucial role in confirming diagnoses and assessing the severity of the illness.
The Deputy Minister stressed that early detection and proper medical management are essential in preventing complications and reducing dengue-related fatalities.
Health authorities continue to urge the public to seek immediate medical attention if symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, body aches, vomiting, or unusual bleeding are observed, particularly as dengue cases continue to rise across several parts of the country.
The Ministry also reiterated the importance of eliminating mosquito breeding sites and supporting ongoing dengue prevention efforts to help curb the spread of the disease.
