Heat Index Expected to Rise in Several Provinces – MET Department

The Meteorology Department has warned that the heat index—the temperature felt on the human body—may rise to ‘Caution level’ in parts of the Northern, North-Central, North-Western, and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Colombo, and Gampaha districts.

Safety Measures Advised

  • Stay Hydrated: Those working outdoors should drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks in the shade.

  • Check on Vulnerable Individuals: Ensure the well-being of the elderly and sick indoors.

  • Avoid Leaving Children Unattended in Vehicles.

  • Limit Outdoor Activities: Especially during peak heat hours.

  • Wear Light-Colored, Lightweight Clothing.

Weather Forecast

  • Showers or thundershowers are expected after 2:00 p.m. in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central, and Uva provinces, as well as in Kurunegala district.

  • Fairly heavy showers above 50 mm may occur in Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces.

  • Morning mist can be expected in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Uva provinces, as well as in Galle, Matara, and Kurunegala districts.
