IMF Team to Visit Sri Lanka for Review of Economic Reform Programme

June 21, 2026

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has announced that its country team will undertake a staff visit to Sri Lanka from June 24 to 30 to assess recent economic developments and review the progress of the country’s reform programme.

Evan Papageorgiou, the IMF Mission Chief for Sri Lanka, stated that the visit will provide an opportunity for the IMF team to engage with government authorities and a broad range of stakeholders.

According to Papageorgiou, discussions will focus on evaluating recent economic performance, assessing progress under Sri Lanka’s ongoing economic reform agenda, and identifying key developments affecting the country’s recovery efforts.

The visit comes as Sri Lanka continues to implement reforms aimed at restoring macroeconomic stability, strengthening public finances, rebuilding foreign reserves, and supporting sustainable economic growth under the IMF-supported programme.

The IMF team is expected to hold meetings with senior government officials, economic policymakers, representatives of the private sector, and other relevant stakeholders during the week-long visit.

The review will provide an opportunity for both the IMF and Sri Lankan authorities to take stock of progress achieved so far and discuss priorities for the next phase of economic reforms.

Sri Lanka’s recent economic indicators, including improved foreign exchange inflows, positive economic growth, and continued fiscal reforms, are expected to feature prominently in the discussions.

The IMF has continued to support Sri Lanka’s economic recovery efforts through its Extended Fund Facility (EFF) programme, which was approved to assist the country in addressing the severe economic crisis experienced in recent years.
