The Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (CERT) has issued a warning about a surge in scams targeting bank accounts during the festive season.
Chief Information Security Engineer Nirosh Ananda urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to fraudulent schemes. He highlighted that scammers often use fake offers or coupons in emails and SMS messages, tricking individuals into clicking malicious links.
Ananda emphasized the importance of safeguarding personal financial information, advising people to refrain from sharing bank account details or providing one-time passwords (OTPs) to third parties under any circumstances.
CERT’s warning serves as a timely reminder to exercise caution while engaging in online activities, especially during the holiday period when cybercriminals tend to exploit the heightened activity.
