Indian Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan concluded his two-day official visit to Sri Lanka this afternoon (20), departing for Delhi from Bandaranaike International Airport.
During the visit, he held bilateral discussions with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, reinforcing longstanding ties between the two countries.
Several Memoranda of Understanding were signed, focusing on development cooperation and rehabilitation efforts related to Cyclone Ditwah, with support from the Government of India.
The Vice President also visited the Indian Housing Project (Phase III) at Liddlesdale Estate in Ragala, Nuwara Eliya, where he interacted with beneficiaries and reaffirmed India’s commitment to the welfare of Tamil communities in Sri Lanka.
He noted that India has already provided 50,000 houses for Tamil families across the Northern, Eastern, and plantation regions, with an additional 10,000 houses planned under the next phase.
During his visit, Radhakrishnan expressed condolences over the impact of Cyclone Ditwah and discussed India’s relief efforts under “Operation Sagar Bandhu.”
He also visited the Seetha Amman Temple and the Hanuman Kovil, highlighting cultural and historical ties between the two nations.
Recalling an announcement by Narendra Modi, he noted plans to renovate the Seetha Amman Temple with Indian assistance, further strengthening bilateral relations.
