Justin Trudeau to Step Down as Canadian Prime Minister Amid Party Pressure

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced his decision to step down after nine years as the leader of the country, citing growing pressure from within his own Liberal Party.

Trudeau confirmed he would remain in office until his party selects a new leader, with parliament set to be suspended until 24 March.

“This country deserves a real choice in the next election, and it has become clear to me that if I’m having to fight internal battles, I cannot be the best option in that election,” Trudeau stated during a press conference on Monday.

Trudeau’s waning popularity among Canadians had increasingly hindered his party’s prospects as federal elections approach later this year.
