A powerful earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale struck Indonesia’s Sulawesi Island on Tuesday, according to the country’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
The agency reported that the earthquake’s epicentre was located approximately 42 kilometres southeast of the city of Palu at a depth of 10 kilometres.
Authorities stated that there is no risk of a tsunami resulting from the earthquake.
There were no immediate reports of casualties, injuries, or significant damage following the tremor.
Indonesia is situated along the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” one of the world’s most seismically active regions, where earthquakes and volcanic activity occur frequently due to the movement of tectonic plates.
Officials are continuing to monitor the situation and assess any potential impact on affected communities.
