Thousands of commuters in Colombo and its suburbs are expected to benefit from the expansion of the Lanka Metro Transit (LMT) Metro Bus Service, with operations commencing today (29) on five additional routes.
The expansion brings the total number of Metro Bus routes to seven, including the two routes that were already in operation.
The expanded Metro Bus Service was officially launched today under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The seven routes are:
CM01 – Makumbura to Pettah
CM02 – Athurugiriya (Millennium City) to Colombo Fort
CM03 – Kadawatha to Makumbura
CM04 – Dematagoda to Panadura
CM05 – Battaramulla to Ekala
CM06 – Kollupitiya Circular Route
CM08 – Kahathuduwa to Colombo Fort
The expansion significantly increases the reach of the Metro Bus network, connecting key residential, commercial, and transport hubs across the Western Province.
Passengers can access bus timetables, designated bus stops, and other travel information through the LMT GO App, the digital platform supporting the service.
With Colombo continuing to face traffic congestion and increasing commuter demand, transport authorities expect the expanded Metro Bus network to encourage greater use of public transport by providing improved accessibility, connectivity, and convenience for daily commuters.
