The National Dengue Control Unit says nearly 30,000 dengue infections have been reported across Sri Lanka so far this year.
Community Health Specialist Prashila Samaraweera stated that 29,589 dengue cases had been recorded by May 18, 2026.
According to health authorities, 15 dengue-related deaths have also been confirmed during the same period.
The NDCU has identified 39 high-risk Medical Officer of Health Divisions requiring urgent intervention and monitoring.
The highest number of cases has been reported from:
- Western Province
- Southern Province
- Sabaragamuwa Province
Dengue infections have now been reported in all 25 districts of the country, with the highest case numbers recorded in:
- Colombo District
- Gampaha District
- Ratnapura District
- Matara District
- Galle District
- Kalutara District
- Kandy District
Dr. Samaraweera further noted that entomological surveys have detected increased dengue transmission in:
- Schools
- Government institutions
- Workplaces
- Religious sites
Health authorities continue to urge the public to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds, maintain clean surroundings, and take preventive measures to help control the spread of dengue.
