Nearly 65,000 police officers are set to be deployed across the country for duties related to the upcoming local government elections, according to Police Media Spokesperson Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Buddhika Manatunga.
SSP Manatunga further noted that military personnel will also be deployed if necessary to ensure security and maintain order during the election period.
He emphasized that strict legal action will be taken against individuals who violate election laws, particularly during the ongoing election silence period.
Meanwhile, the People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) announced that nearly 3,000 observers have been stationed islandwide to monitor the election process. In addition, more than 800 mobile observers have been deployed to oversee election-related activities and report any irregularities.
Authorities continue to stress the importance of maintaining a peaceful and lawful environment throughout the electoral process.
