The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has seized nearly 8,500 bottles of drinking water bearing a counterfeit SLS certification mark during a special raid in Avissawella.
Preliminary investigations found that the bottled water had been manufactured at a facility in Amithirigala, Ruwanwella, and stored at a warehouse in Avissawella.
Officials discovered that bottles of various sizes had been falsely labelled with the SLS certification mark and certificate number 894.
The investigation revealed that the stock had not yet been released to the market but had been prepared for distribution.
The CAA sealed and took into custody nearly 8,500 bottles during the raid.
Legal action will be taken against those responsible following further investigations, the CAA said.
