A total of 1,320 individuals have been arrested in island-wide raids conducted by the Excise Department during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year festive season.
According to a statement from the department, the arrests were made during special operations carried out between April 3 and April 12.
In addition to the arrests, the Excise Department also shut down three licensed premises found to be selling alcohol in violation of excise regulations.
The department stated that such operations are part of its ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with the law and maintain public order during festive periods.
