Parliament of Sri Lanka is set to convene today (05) for the first time following the Sinhala and Tamil New Year holidays.
The session will begin at 9:30 a.m. under the patronage of Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne, according to the Secretary-General of Parliament.
Parliament is scheduled to sit from today until May 8. During today’s session, four regulations under the Colombo Port City Economic Commission Act are expected to be taken up for approval.
Tomorrow, lawmakers are due to hold the second reading debate on the Rescue Rehabilitation and Insolvency Bill. On the following day, regulations under the National Transport Commission Act and the Motor Traffic Act Sri Lanka are scheduled to be considered.
Several Private Members’ Motions are also expected to be debated on Friday.
Meanwhile, the opposition parliamentary group, led by Sajith Premadasa, met yesterday (04) to discuss the week’s agenda.
Parliamentarian Ajith P Perera stated that the opposition plans to focus attention on the alleged misappropriation of Treasury funds during the upcoming parliamentary sessions.
