President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced today that the importation of private vehicles will commence on February 1, 2025.
Addressing Parliament, the President explained that vehicles would be imported under a newly implemented program. He emphasized that the automotive industry cannot remain stagnant for an extended period, prompting the government to restart vehicle imports in three phases.
He further noted that the importation of buses for passenger transport and vehicles for special services had already resumed on December 14, 2024.
The President confirmed that the government has proposed to begin importing private vehicles from February 1, 2025, while also resuming the importation of vehicles intended for goods transportation and personal use.
