Ravi Karunanayake: Taxpayers Should Be Encouraged, Not Burdened

Former UNP Deputy Leader and MP Ravi Karunanayake has stressed that governments should support and incentivize taxpayers rather than overburden them.

Speaking to the media, he emphasized the need to offer privileges and foster a positive approach toward taxation. However, he warned that the current policies are placing excessive pressure on taxpayers, particularly with the proposed 15% tax on the service sector, which lacks incentives.

While acknowledging the ongoing economic crisis, Karunanayake suggested that the government should engage with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to develop more practical solutions.
