Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party, MP Ravi Karunanayake, says Sri Lanka should avoid depending on a single country for trade transactions during international crises.
Speaking in an interview with the ceylonwire.lk website, Karunanayake stressed that a country like Sri Lanka must pursue a balanced and far-sighted foreign economic policy.
Referring to the ongoing Middle East-related fuel crisis and Sri Lanka’s dealings with Russia for fuel imports, he warned that complications could arise if objections emerge from the United States or other international actors involved in global trade.
According to the MP, Sri Lanka should ensure that trade and economic stability are protected regardless of international tensions or geopolitical disputes.
He further cautioned that acting unilaterally in global affairs could lead to international isolation and negatively impact the country’s economic interests.
