Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon, who is currently in remand custody, has been granted permission to receive home-cooked meals while being detained at Dumbara Prison in Kandy.
Prison Media Spokesperson and Commissioner Gamini B. Dissanayake confirmed that the approval took effect from yesterday (March 24).
Tennakoon, who faces charges related to a shooting incident near a hotel in Weligama, surrendered to the court nearly 20 days after an arrest warrant was issued against him. Following his surrender, the Matara Magistrate ordered his remand until April 3.
After being transferred to Dumbara Prison, Tennakoon formally requested permission to receive meals from home. Following a review, the Prison Department approved his request, allowing his family to provide home-cooked food for all three daily meals.
