Rumors of Ranil’s Return to Parliament Dismissed – NDF General Secretary

The General Secretary of the New Democratic Front (NDF), Shyamila Perera, has refuted claims that UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe is preparing to re-enter Parliament through the NDF.

Speaking to Ceylonewire.lk, Perera stated that no such request has been made by Wickremesinghe or his party.

“I also saw reports about this, but there is no truth to them. Our party currently holds two parliamentary seats, and for someone else to enter, one of them would have to resign. There is no such plan, nor has there been a request from Ranil Wickremesinghe’s side. The decision on his return to Parliament rests with the UNP,” she emphasized.

Political sources suggest that some within the UNP are using their media allies to push the narrative of Wickremesinghe’s return.

In the last general election, the NDF secured two national list seats, which are currently occupied by former UNP National Secretary Ravi Karunanayake and Faizer Musthapha.
