The Department of Meteorology has forecast showers or thundershowers in several areas across most parts of the island during the afternoon or night today (April 14).
Morning showers are also likely in the Western Province and in the districts of Galle, Matara, Puttalam, and Batticaloa.
According to the Department, fairly heavy rainfall of about 50mm is expected in certain areas of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Uva Provinces.
Authorities have advised the public to take necessary precautions to minimize damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
Meanwhile, due to the apparent northward motion of the sun, it will be directly overhead Sri Lanka from April 5 to April 14. Today, the sun will be directly overhead areas including Delft, Pooneryn, Elephant Pass, and Chundikulam at approximately 12:10 noon.
The Department continues to monitor weather conditions and advises residents and travelers to remain vigilant, especially in areas prone to heavy rainfall and lightning.
