Sri Lanka Police Launch Special Traffic Operations to Enhance Road Safety

As part of the “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative, the Sri Lanka Police have introduced two specialized traffic operations aimed at reducing road accidents and easing congestion across the country.

Targeting Unauthorized Vehicle Modifications
The first operation focuses on vehicles with unauthorized modifications, such as noisy exhaust systems, flashing multi-colored lights, and other illegal alterations that pose safety risks. During the enforcement period, from January 4 to January 19, vehicle owners are encouraged to voluntarily remove these components.

Undercover Monitoring on Public Buses
The second operation involves deploying undercover police officers on public transport buses to identify traffic violations committed by drivers. This approach aims to curb reckless driving and ensure safer public transport services.

Focus on Awareness and Long-Term Safety
Both initiatives are designed to educate drivers about traffic laws during the pilot phase. Legal action against violators will follow, with plans to extend these operations as part of a long-term strategy to enhance road safety and compliance.

These measures underline the Sri Lanka Police’s commitment to creating safer and more efficient roadways for all.
