Addressing the media, the Minister highlighted that Sri Lanka had achieved its goal of welcoming two million tourists in 2024 and is now planning to increase arrivals to three million in 2025.
“We must focus on enhancing the quality of our tourism sector as much as increasing the quantity of visitors. By doing so, we can attract more high-end tourists. Tourism is not merely an industry; it serves as a reflection of our history, culture, and heritage,” Minister Herath stated.
He also pointed out concerns regarding tourists misusing tourist visas for business activities within the country. The Minister expressed confidence that initiatives aimed at improving the quality of tourism services would address such issues and further strengthen the sector.
