The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority says tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka have surpassed the 950,000 mark so far this year.
According to the latest figures released by the SLTDA, a total of 951,742 tourists visited the country between January 1 and May 17, 2026.
India recorded the highest number of arrivals, contributing 221,953 visitors during the period.
Significant numbers of tourists also arrived from:
United Kingdom
Russia
China
Germany
Meanwhile, the SLTDA noted that 75,465 tourists arrived in Sri Lanka between May 1 and May 17, 2026.
However, tourism data indicates that average daily tourist arrivals in May have declined noticeably compared to the higher arrival figures recorded during the first three months of 2026.
The slowdown comes amid concerns over global geopolitical tensions and regional economic uncertainty affecting international travel patterns.
